There is substance, and even after beating it twice I was finding myself slowing down in some parts so I could re-experience the chills I felt on my first run. Each area is also very dynamic in how its is laid out as well. Like its just there to fill in a spot and is nonsense. You never feel like you just visit a place and never have to go back. Each area is explained and has meaning for why it is there, and has reasons to visit. Very well fleshed out, and the story pays into it in full.
